MIAMI – January 26, 2022
–
Meland Budwick today announced the expansion of the firm’s litigation practice with the addition of Barry Kamar as Partner. A former federal prosecutor and investment banker, Kamar will leverage his highly valued experience as a seasoned trial lawyer and corporate dealmaker to provide Meland Budwick’s clients with business-minded legal representation in fraud disputes and complex commercial litigation.

Kamar served for approximately 10 years with the United States Department of Justice and the United States Securities and Exchange Commission. As an Assistant United States Attorney in the District of New Jersey, Kamar was Chief of the Public Protection Unit and spent much of his time conducting jury trials in federal court. Before joining the Department of Justice, Kamar served as a senior counsel in the New York office of the Securities and Exchange Commission, where he investigated and prosecuted cases involving financial fraud and other violations of the federal securities laws. Kamar also spent several years at an elite New York law firm litigating large commercial matters, including securities fraud, antitrust, and breach-of-contract cases.

As a trial lawyer, Kamar’s approach to litigation is informed by his corporate experience. Most recently, Kamar was Managing Director of Westfleet Advisors, a leading national litigation finance firm, where he assisted claimholders in raising capital to litigate their commercial cases. Kamar also was previously an investment banker at Morgan Stanley & Co. and an economist at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he advised Fortune 500 and middle-market clients on a variety of strategic corporate transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, corporate financings, and transfer pricing.

“As Meland Budwick continues to experience high demand for our services in complex commercial litigation matters, including high-profile financial frauds, we are pleased to further strengthen our team with a distinguished former federal prosecutor,” said Michael S. Budwick, partner and co-chair of the Meland Budwick Financial Frauds Group. “Barry brings a highly valued perspective, having investigated and prosecuted countless federal cases and also having worked as an investment banker and dealmaker. Meland Budwick will continue to make strategic hires as part of our commitment to deliver the effective, business-minded legal counsel our clients need to achieve their goals.”

Added Kamar: “I decided to join Meland Budwick because of the firm’s reputation for having a strong team of professionals with a collegial, entrepreneurial spirit and a great roster of clients where my unique capabilities can bring significant value. Meland Budwick will provide the ideal platform for the next phase of my career, as I combine all the experience and knowledge I’ve acquired over the years across law, finance and business, to provide the firm and its clients with a distinct competitive advantage.”

Fluent in Arabic and proficient in Spanish, Kamar graduated with honors in 2006 from the University of Texas School of Law. He received a bachelor’s degree with honors in 1999 from the University of Texas.
