James C. Moon Served as a Panelist in the Veterans Financial Literacy Program in South Florida

Miami | November 9, 2023 – Meland Budwick partner James “Jim” C. Moon recently participated in a financial literacy panel at the Legal Services of Greater Miami headquarters to military veterans in the community alongside panelists Bankruptcy Judge Laurel M. Isicoff and Carlos Sardi, attorney and President of the Bankruptcy Bar Association of the Southern District of Florida.

The panel discussed valuable skills for making educated financial decisions, from budgeting, to student loans and rights against abusive debt collection practices. Veterans also received one-on-one consultations with pro-bono attorneys.

The Veterans Financial Literacy Program was created by Bankruptcy Judge Laurel M. Isicoff, which is a joint effort between the Legal Services of Greater Miami, Broward Legal Aid, Legal Aid of Palm Beach, the Florida Bar Business Law Section, and the United Way’s Mission United. Judge Isicoff was inspired to create the program after collaborating with several bankruptcy judges on a special program for the veteran community in San Diego in 2020.

The program is now expanding statewide and will host additional veteran-focused financial literacy programs on December 9, 2023 and in Spring 2024.

Jim served for approximately 10 years in the United States Navy aboard ballistic missile and fast-attack submarines as a communications and cryptographic specialist. He also is a Gulf War veteran.
