MIAMI (Nov. 22, 2013) – The Cuban American Bar Association (CABA), led by CABA President and Meland Budwick, P.A. Partner Sandra M. Ferrera, served as host to the recent Legal Aspects of Doing Business in the Americas, a one-day conference to discuss the complex regulatory, legal, market and cultural issues related to conducting business in Latin America.Meland Budwick, P.A. Co-founding Shareholder Mark Meland and Partner Solomon Genet served as panel speakers at the conference, which took place at the InterContinental Miami Hotel in downtown Miami.
Featured workshop topics included international arbitration; cross-border insolvency and bankruptcy; employment; Foreign Corrupt Practices Act compliance; immigration; cross-border litigation; trade opportunities; real estate; and intellectual property issues in cyberspace. Meland served as panelist for “Real Estate: Foreign Investment in U.S. Real Property.” The panel analyzed the legal challenges of acquiring, owning and disposing of U.S. real property for the non-resident alien individual and foreign corporate investor.
Genet served as moderator for the panel, “Cross-Border Insolvency and Chapter 15 Bankruptcy: Navigating Insolvency Considerations in a Multi-National Context.” The panel discussed current and emerging trends in navigating insolvency for entities with assets or debts that cross national borders.
