MIAMI – June 22, 2015 – Miami law firm Meland Budwick, P.A. today announced that Administrative Partner James C. Moon has been appointed Chair-Elect of the Inclusion/Mentoring/Fellowships Committee of the Business Law Section of The Florida Bar. He will become Chair in 2016 and serve a one-year term.
The Inclusion/Mentoring/Fellowships Committee is a diverse group of members of The Florida Bar, including judges, academics, and private practitioners, who work to foster an inclusive environment within the Business Law Section. In his role as Chair-Elect, Moon will work with fellow members to support the organization’s mission to help increase the number of diverse members of The Florida Bar involved in section activities, support diversity in general within the legal profession, and help catalyze professional development and leadership opportunities within the section for diverse members. He also will support its mission to provide a forum for members to address diversity and inclusion issues and build networks for change in the section and the legal profession.
“Considering that the legal profession yields presidents, lawmakers, judges and heads of major corporations, organizations, and institutions, it is critical for its membership to be as diverse and inclusive as possible,” Moon said. “Recent data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor show that 88 percent of lawyers are white, making law one of the least racially diverse professions in the country. Serving in this important leadership position within The Florida Bar will enable me to make a difference in addressing this long-standing problem affecting our legal system.”
At Meland Budwick, P.A., Moon focuses his practice on commercial litigation, creditors’ rights, workouts, commercial loan transactions, and bankruptcy. Moon handles a broad variety of international, complex civil litigation matters, including the defense of RICO claims as well as all manner of commercial disputes. He also represents official committees and individual creditors in complex Chapter 11 proceedings, adversary proceedings in bankruptcy courts, and out-of-court restructurings.
Moon received a law degree, with honors, from the University of Connecticut School of Law and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Connecticut.
